Adalat AI is building an end-to-end justice tech stack that automates manual and clerical pain points in courtrooms, giving judges back time to focus on what matters most: decision-making and delivering justice. Our solutions - from AI-powered transcription in Indian languages to case-flow management and document navigation - are now deployed across 9 states, covering nearly 20% of India’s judiciary. Backed by leading technology companies and funders, and incubated at MIT and Oxford, Adalat AI is working to eliminate judicial delays and expand access to timely justice. Founded by a team with backgrounds in law, technology, and economics from Harvard, Oxford, MIT, and IIIT Hyderabad, we are scaling rapidly across India and the Global South.

Role Overview

Adalat AI is hiring Legal Data Experts with sound legal knowledge, and a strong desire to work at the dynamic interface of technology and law.

We are looking for law students and early career professionals, individuals who are meticulous, curious, and genuinely excited about contributing meaningfully towards the development of tools that create real impact. In this role, you'll work closely with our ML and Data teams to build and evaluate the legal training data that powers Adalat AI's products.

Position Details

  • Part-time, contract-based, remote with flexible working hours.

  • Expected workload: 10-20 hours/week, depending on your availability, followed by call a with the team as may be required.

  • Compensation: INR 450-600 per hour, based on task type and performance.

Hiring Process

  1. Intro call (~20 min) to discuss the role, expectations, and fit.

  2. Paid trial week - about 10-15 hours of real work with the team, compensated at INR 250 / hour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with our data team to design context-specifc real world test queries, evaluate model-generated responses and provide gold-standard responses.

  • Help improve the contextual awareness and accuracy of our language models for legal and public interest use cases.

  • Be part of an innovative legal tech project shaping the future of justice delivery in India.

Qualifications

  • Obtained or pursuing an LL.B. from a Bar Council of India-recognised institution (required).

  • Familiarity with the Indian court hierarchy: District Courts, High Courts, and the Supreme Court.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to read large volumes of dense legal text accurately.

  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, async environment.

  • Prior experience in litigation is a strong plus.

R2 — Platform Deep-Dive (45 minutes)
An end-to-end walkthrough of the Adalat AI platform, led by one of our State Leads, to give you a clear picture of what we've built and how it works in the field.

R3 — Candidate-Led Demo (60 minutes)
You take the wheel — lead a platform demo with our Partnerships team. This is your opportunity to show us how you understand the product and how you'd present it to stakeholders.

R4 — Culture Fit — Head of Partnerships (30 minutes)
A conversation with our Head of Partnerships to assess shared values and how you'd work within the team.

R5 — Founder Chat (30 minutes)
A conversation with one or more of our founders to assess your fit with the company — our mission, values, and where we're headed.

R6 — Offer
If it's a great match on both sides, we'll move forward with an offer.
