Remote-first (India) · OCTO — Office of the CTO
Adalat AI is building an end-to-end justice tech stack that automates manual and clerical pain points in courtrooms, giving judges back time to focus on what matters most: decision-making and delivering justice. Our solutions - from AI-powered transcription in Indian languages to case-flow management and document navigation - are now deployed across 9 states, covering nearly 20% of India’s judiciary. Backed by leading technology companies and funders, and incubated at MIT and Oxford, Adalat AI is working to eliminate judicial delays and expand access to timely justice. Founded by a team with backgrounds in law, technology, and economics from Harvard, Oxford, MIT, and IIIT Hyderabad, we are scaling rapidly across India and the Global South.
Role Overview
The IT & Security Administrator owns IT and information security for Adalat AI end-to-end. This includes the ad-hoc request queue: provisioning laptops, accounts, accesses, licences, resetting passwords, everything that keeps a fully remote team unblocked, and the security posture that makes courts comfortable handing us their data. You will report into the Office of the CTO. The longer term expectation is that you automate it down and build a genuine security function on top of it.
Key Responsibilities
Own IT functions end-to-end — access, licences, accounts, calendars, lockouts. Acknowledge fast, resolve fast, close the loop.
Automate the queue down. Extend the existing Slack-to-Linear automation and runbook so provisioning is one command, not twelve admin consoles.
Build and enforce a role-based access matrix. Least privilege by default, and critical tools moved off personal accounts onto shared ones.
Run and automate onboarding and offboarding: everything live before day one, everything reclaimed on the last working day.
Administer identity and secrets across Google Workspace, Slack, Bitwarden, Tailscale, GitHub, GCP and Azure.
Standardise laptop specs and procurement, and maintain an asset register and endpoint hygiene you can evidence rather than assume.
Write and roll out security policies, run security onboarding, and own incident response.
Track IT spend: reclaim unused seats, keep renewals and cloud bills from lapsing, chase nonprofit pricing.
About You
You are the person a whole company tags, and you do not drop things. You are patient with non-technical users — some of them judges and senior lawyers with no patience for tooling — and credible with engineers in the same afternoon. You would rather write a script than do the same task twice. You can decline an access request that shouldn't be granted without making an enemy. And you are comfortable defining a function rather than inheriting one, because there is no process scaffolding here yet.
Qualifications
5+ years in IT operations, IT administration, or information security, with hands-on ownership of both.
Deep Google Workspace and identity administration: users, groups, OUs, MFA, SSO, service accounts, offboarding data transfer.
Cloud IAM on GCP and/or Azure — roles, least privilege, billing accounts.
Applied security fundamentals: access control, endpoint hardening, secrets management, incident response, vendor risk.
Scripting in Python, Bash, or Apps Script: enough to automate provisioning rather than click through consoles.
Strong written English. Most of this job is asynchronous.
Preferred: exposure to government or public-sector IT, experience procuring hardware and negotiating nonprofit pricing in India.
What You Will Achieve in a Year
A new joiner is fully set up before their first standup, automated on Day 1. The request queue is measurably smaller because most of it is now automated or self-serve.
There is a published access matrix, a real asset register, and offboarding that leaves nothing orphaned.
Everyone at Adalat AI has been through security onboarding.
Laptop management is smooth and laptops reach new joiners before their Day 1
We keep our process straightforward and transparent. Here's what to expect:
R1: Conversation with the Office of the CTO. Mission fit, culture fit,
R2: Practical round. A real request from our queue and a real security gap in our environment: how you would triage, automate, and harden.
R3: Conversation with the founders
